Oh ye, you will definitely make a LOT of Chinese friends here because Australians generally dont mingle with Asians, especially if you are a male, if you are a good looking female, there maybe other incentives for them to become your friend but generally not healthy ones, Aussies are not as friendly to Asians as Canadians or Americans and I believe you will notice it as soon as you arrive. I came from another English speaking country and I find a good portion of Aussie populations are rude, shallow and arrogant, which is confirmed by friends from US, South Africa and other places...however, this is not to say all Australians are of that nature, I have encountered serveral guys of good character but fewer compared to other western first world countries
Cost of living is very high here but $ 20000 a year for living expenses should be more enough as long as you avoid clubing, pubing and lot of traveling. On the flip side, with high cost of living comes high wages, if you work for reputable fast food chains such as Maccas or KFC, you could earn approx. $ 16 ph (thats what I heard), however if you go for dodgy Asian restaurants, you probably wont get paid more than $ 10 ph and be prepared to be treated like slaves...
Can not comment too much on dentistry as I am not from medical school but I heard Aus universities also has quota and it is extremly hard to complete, but once you are done, you are done for life! I suggest you seek professional feedbacks from the university instead of asking random ppl on a forum.
Also, stay away from business/commerce degrees, 9 out of 10 international students study those subjects, which leads to supply >>>>>> demand, actually now days a lot of Asian waiter / waitress in restaurant and cafes are graduate from accounting degree xD
Lastly, be aware UV radiation is very high in Australia, it is recommended to use umbrellas / sun screen / sun glasses when doing outdoor activities in the afternoon, stay out of the sun between 11 AM - 3 PM if possible, skin cancer is one of the biggest killer here.
