“Hello
I just finished my group interview with the Star today. Below are details if anyone is interested in becoming a Trainee Dealer:
- arrived @ Star Careers Centre (opp. Lyric Theatre) @ 9am (for 9.30am appointment) received name tag and was asked to go with a trainer to do dexterity test
- trainer asks you pick up 20 chips with each hand (to see if they are big enough, note: one girl was told she has short pinky's LOL)
- trainer asks you to read out the colours of about 8 chips that are stacked on top of each other (you cannot touch them, and you have to say it fast and accurately of course)
- trainer gets you to play Blackjack with him (he is the dealer, you and other interviewees are the players (no prior knowledge required, he will explain all rules to you at the table)
- take a seat (classroom style) and complete standard application form (ref's required)
- trainer shows you a powerpoint presentation of the Star and their facilities
- paired up with another person, speak to them for about 2mins and then stand at the front of the room and introduce them to everyone (name, age, hobbies and why they want to work there)
- Basic maths test (timed at 5mins, addition, minus and multiplication, do as many as you can and try to get it right)
- trainer shows another powerpoint about full time hours, part time hours, pay rates, uniforms, parking, food, internet for staff
- trainer gives you different topics to talk about which include: My favourite hobby is...; if I were a cocktail I would be...; if i had a superpower it would be...; my favourite holiday destination is... You then have to stand at the front and say it to the group, including why (about 30sec speech)
- one-on-one interview at the end with one of the trainers (there are about 5 there) they ask – what did you learn from this session; why do you think customer service is important; what customer service-related jobs have you done in the past; what are the 5 F's; which of the F's are you and why; why do you want to work at the Star; how did you find out about this job; do you have any questions? (about 5mins long)
2 hours later and you done!
Note:
- previous RSA, RCG and knowledge of games are not required – the casino do their own training (approx. 4-5weeks full time)
- stress that you are the Man at customer service
- always smile, look interested by nodding when people speak, maintain eye contact and mingle with other people, lol literally too
I found the experience fun, the trainers are really nice, the people in my group were so young! (most under 22), the only thing i struggled at was the "basic" maths test and when she asked me what I'd learnt in the one-on-one interview LOL
They contact you 5-7 working days after checking your ref's whether you got the job or not
I'm actually not too fussed if i get it or not because the hours are crazy! (shift work, can start at 4am, or 5pm etc.) and its so far from mine (1hour away by pub transport).
i think the only good thing is the pay and that you get a break every hour for 15mins (paid)
also, once you are employed you cannot gamble in the casino (pokies, tables, keno etc.) you can go there to use facilities e.g. restaurants, bars. the trainer was saying that after working there for a couple of weeks you won't want to go there to gamble anyway lol
hope i havent missed anything, and i KNOW that this will help anyone interested in the dealer position :)“
