I have taken on the role of Accounts/Admin Assistant in a global commercial cleaning company's Adelaide branch for some time. I was originally given a 1 year full time contract. After 2 weeks, they converted me to permanent part-time staff. Recently, I was converted to permanent full-time staff. Thus, I like to thank both of you for your guidance and support through out my Level 1 training and giving me the chance undertake JAA duties at your Adelaide office. I find the training at Platinum a good complement to my Uni accounting studies as it helped me implement my knowledge from Uni into practical work experience. It was a good opportunity to really master MYOB which I now use frequently at work. I also like to thank Jeff for his interview guidance workshop which really helped me alot in preparing my interview answers. Regarding the job search, I think that having both local accounting experience and PR are crucial for international students who are fresh graduates. Other than that, you have to be well prepared for your interview and be positive and lively during your interview. I was interviewed in person by my manager for around 45 mins, followed by an IQ test. A few days later, I had a short phone interview by the regional manager based in Sydney who gave me the job before ending our call. During the interview, I was asked the following questions: What do you know about our company? Why do you like/want to stay in Adelaide? Tell me about your experience in accounts and admin work. Tell me about your typing skills and experience. What are your biggest strengths and weaknesses? Tell me a time you performed a task that demonstrates your attention to detail. Tell me a time you handled a difficult customer. Tell me a time you demonstrated your skill as working as part of a team. Tell me about a time you worked under pressure. Tell me how you managed a heavy work load with many tasks needing to be completed? Do you have driving license and PR? Do you have any questions for me? I hope my feedback is useful to help other students during their interview. I told her/Finance GM I was from, my background with funny words and smile, we all laughed. Lets go through your resume. She ask how long I was in Platinum and the experience in China. I honestly told her I havent not have much experience in accounting especially in Australia and She said she knew it and we both laughed again. Then I told her how I did really good in china and how I did to pursue my expecting life, my business. She was impressed she told me. Then she asked do I have any knowledge about the company. I told the only thing I knew was what business you do. Your home page doesnt even have a option called "about us". She was shocked. Then she said that was just one of their brand. She told me they are a list company and asked if I knew. I told her I didnt. She said she liked my honesty. Then asked did I have any question. I told her I got a call when I was doing my business yesterday and came in for interview before 9am today. And I didnt know your company much. So my only question in mind was how did you think about me. I thought I screw up so I just wanted to know how did she think about me. She told me she apreciate my honesty and she liked my board experience in other field and life. Last part was some chichat about life and family of both us. I thinks I have humor. She told me she was happy and will let me know the time for second interview. Second Interview with FGM and Chief GM of Operations Same questions and I did the same except I told them now that I knew your company. and asked 6 questions I have prepared in the end. different questions What paid are you looking for? I told them I learned that they have really good employee benefits and give them a board range from my research about the position. age? board range again and tell them it has nothing to do with my performance. last question was tricky. You said you did really good on sales and If we offer you a sales position what do you think? I told him accounting is my first choice and I have no intention to be a sales person. I would lose the chance if I took it they told me. Chichat again. Then they said they were really impressed by my board experience,my hardwork to pursue my goal for the fact that I have a business, and were really happy about me. they did mention my humor was one of the reasons they considered. and told me they have to discuss which team to put me in. Would let me know in a day or two. And told me I had defeated more than 300 applicants which I dont really believe though. Called me the day after to let me know their offer. Joining Platinum probably was the wisest thing I have ever done for my career where I learned all the basic knowledge needed in the real working environment and C***is such a great role model. After the internship I got a job as an accounts clerk recommended by a previous boss of my part time job demonstrating that social networking is highly important. Soon after I started working with this company, I started my CPA and have now finished 3 segments. I realised that I needed another job (something more substantial that could fulfill the CPA PER). So, I started job hunting again. As we all know, the job market has been quiet for a while and there were not as many job ads on Seek. But luckily, I got this interview opportunity. After 2 rounds of interview, and thanks to C***'s reference, I got it! So do not give up no matter how long you have been trying. Maybe your dream job is just waiting for you around the corner. He told me that I can start from next week. I applied for the job through seek and was invited to the interview by a phone call after few weeks, I only had a one round interview with two managers. Interview lasted for about an hour and the questions were all Behavioral type. The Questions were very similar as the interview questions we covered in Interview class and they helped me a lot to answer the questions fluently and helped me to be very confident. At the end of the interview I asked them few questions and tried to leave a good impression by saying that I am very interested in the role and keen to work for your company. Another important thing which helped me to get the job was that when I came home after the interview I send an email to both interviewers to thank for the interview. In my letter I tried to pick up the most important point about the role and the company and wrote about it by saying "I have a real interest in this area of work. Being the environment of the job very fast pasted made me more interested in the role. I believe my hard working personality would certainly enable me to make a valuable contribution to your Company." I would recommend all the trainees to apply the last point during their interview process which would really push one step forward then other candidates. Tell me about the situation you met the strict deadline. 8. How can you make sure your accounting and auditing knowledge are updated? 9. How to deal with the large financial data? 10. If you find some weakness in internal control, how can you deal with this? 11. If you find the staff over use the entertainment card, how to deal with this issue? I would also take the Opportunity to thank Jeff for the interview classes, I was very nervous before, I was not confident at all and also didn't know how to answer the interview Questions. It hadn't only helped me in my job but it had also helped me in my course where I had been assessed for interview and was among the top 3. It’s really important such internship for new graduates, because at the work place no one had time to show to do the work and if someone don't know anything and had been offered a job, he or she will be rejected in very short time.
